Learn first-hand about local customs, culture and the daily lives of the Laikipia Maasai with a visit to the Il Ngwesi community. After breakfast in camp, you will set off on an hour game drive, passing through Lewa and on to the Il Ngwesi community land. On arrival you will be welcomed into the ‘manyata’ (homestead) where approximately 20 families live an age-old Masai lifestyle. You will learn about traditions that have now passed into history, such as ingenious methods of hunting game animals, and how the community now live alongside the wildlife that thrives in their community conservancy. In learning about the critical cultural and economic importance of their livestock, you will be shown around their traditionally built homes. You will also share in their rich singing and dancing. On the way back to camp, you may choose to stop for a picnic lunch.
