We are delighted to have been recognised by Ecotourism Kenya as Kenya's 2015 Eco-rated Lodge of the Year.  We are incredibly proud as this reflects all the effort and passion we have put in to developing environmentally friendly practices in camp and community support and development.

Sirikoi has always strived to operate in harmony with our beautiful environment and we are equally proud to have been awarded a Gold Certificate from Ecotourism Kenya in recognition of our extensive eco-friendly efforts.  There are only 16 other organisations in Kenya with this award.

This award is only granted to operators who demonstrate outstanding eco-practices and we have worked hard to achieve the strict standards that the award demands.

The Ecotourism Kenya committee recognized that "Sirikoi shows outstanding support to conservation and the well-being of the local people.  The lodge demonstrates exceptional efforts specifically in conservation through Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, legal compliance, solid waste management and investment in solar energy technology."

Sirikoi is run from solar energy, has its own organic vegetable and fruit garden, free range chickens and a crystal clear mountain spring providing all the lodge’s water.  The one-acre organic garden supplies fresh daily produce and is the most prodigious of its type at any lodge or camp in Kenya.   We use eco-friendly cleaning products and toiletries wherever possible and have a strict recycling policy.

Together with the generous help of our guests, Sirikoi has contributed hugely towards Lewa's community education and health projects.

We also directly sponsor many children from the local community with bursary payments for primary and secondary education.  In the last financial year we gave bursaries to a total of $10,000.

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination.  If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you'll make a priceless impact on the lives of our local children and families.  Please click here to see what supplies are currently needed.

We have set up a 'Sacco' (similar to a Building Society) for staff members and their families to use to save and loan money from.  We also support staff with developing their own enterprises.  We have a staff-owned and managed shop within the camp.  One of our staff members (with Sirikoi financial support and training) has launched a successful egg business supplying local restaurants and homes.

We also provide financial and in-kind (administrative) support to a local orphanage, totaling $15,000 in the last financial year.
